Nowadays a wide range of applications needs to be evaluated for a working point and therefore be designed for optimal operation. Analysis of different designs or flow parameters can be an intensive work while the data analysis is not easy. To reduce manual labor, highly advanced optimization methods - implemented in DAKOTA® - can be used in combination with OpenFOAM®. This training case shows how to couple both software tools, DAKOTA® and OpenFOAM®. Discount of 50% possible.

The coupling of DAKOTA® and OpenFOAM® is a common strategy if optimization tasks have to be performed. However, there are only a few tutorials available in the community which are not well documented and mostly out of date. This case demonstrates how to set-up the interface for DAKOTA® to start the optimization task one requires. As always, the well-structured and commented Holzmann CFD's run script is used to give all essential information about the operations. The case itself models the well-known Tesla's One-Way-Valve. The channels are designed in a way that the flow can pass easily in operation direction while the reverse flow will reduce the mass flux based on the geometrical design. The task for the optimizer is to find the pressure drop in which the reverse flow has a three times less mass flux than the pass direction.

Holzmann CFD does not give any warranty to the numerical results that are obtained within this training case based on the fact that there is no verification or validation.
