Building CellZones by using snappyHexMesh

Particular regions in a mesh could require unique properties such as the modeling of porosities or source terms. Therefore, cellZones has to be used in OpenFOAM®. SnappyHexMesh can be one way to define such zones during the meshing stage directly. Based on the snappyHexMeshDict set-up, different quality levels can be achieved. Especially the influence of the »featureEdge« feature is demonstrated in the training case.

This tutorial demonstrates the set-up of the snappyHexMesh dictionary to build different cellZones inside the mesh. An unique tutorial that shows the essential feature of the »featureEdges« that is used to snaps the features of the cell zones. The correct approximation of the design can be highly important in some investigations. However, the training case shows further the result, if the featureEdges snapping is neglected. This will in fact influence the sharpness of the outer cells. In the training case only one cell zone is snapped accurately to provide and demonstrate the neglected and used snapping featureEdge feature.
