SnappyHexMesh can refine defined feature edges during the refinement stage. However, many people in the community have a lot of problems with the feature edge refinement strategy. Therefore, Holzmann CFD provides the SFR case which meshes a pipe with three different surface feature refinement set-up's. The results, especially the wrong ones, might be familiar.

This training case is related to snappyHexMesh and the featureEdge refinement method. The run script will execute snappyHexMesh three times. Each run will use different settings for the featureEdge refinement method. The first set-up has the original edge mesh in use (standard settings). This will produces a not expected refinement result (some refinements are missing). The second one uses a modified feature edge mesh that was optimized by using Blender®. At last, the original edge mesh is reused while the set-up for snappyHexMesh is modified to get the expected result.

Holzmann CFD does not give any warranty to the numerical results that are obtained within this training case based on the fact that there is no verification or validation.
