The descritization of the continous fluid is the essential task in the field of computational fluid dynamics and numerical analysis. Due to the stiff learning curve of OpenFOAM, especially at the beginning, even simple geometry meshing procedures are hard to achieve. Therefore, the following training case provides information for the first steps with snappyHexMesh.

The Von Kármán Vortex Sheeding was one of the first numerical investigations of Dr. mont. Tobias Holzmann. For such analysis, a numerical mesh has to be generated that fulfills defined criteria. However, even though the mesh is not complex nor the meshing procedure is hard, OpenFOAM® starters can still fight with such geometries. Especially, if they are not familiar with the meshing tool snappyHexMesh. This training case provides the basic idea of the meshing strategy for snappyHexMesh. The meshing contains the cut-off of a sphere which is inside a channel. Additional, viscose sublayer are generated around the sphere.

Holzmann CFD does not give any warranty to the numerical results that are obtained within this training case based on the fact that there is no verification or validation.
